There is a belief in Hinduism - "Everything is already decided and we are just living out our lives as preordained". It doesn't say by whom - not God or any supreme power. Its just that whatever is happening now, whatever decisions we make or the road we take is already decided. We merely do whatever we are supposed to do. It goes on to say that there is no point in crying over spilled milk - because you are supposed to spill the milk. Further it advises you to get on with it and go on living as you are supposed to do.
When we look at the concept of time travel or space travel or time-space theories, you can go back in time or move forward. The course of the events is already decided. So no matter what you do or not do, does not change anything - the outcome is always the same and somehow everything eventually sorts itself out or not. You just can't do anything about it. You simply live out the life in the time you are stuck with for the present and the future may take you further to the past or to the future or whatever it is supposed to do.
There is also the quote from Swami Vivekanada "We reap what we sow. We are the makers of our own fate. The wind is blowing; those vessels whose sails are unfurled catch it, and go forward on their way, but those which have their sails furled do not catch the wind. Is that the fault of the wind?....... We make our own destiny." And there is the Road not taken.
So which is true - Do we make our destiny or is everything the way it is supposed to happen the way it does?
