People enter your lives...

People enter into your lives
Some say for a reason
Some stay for a season

So here is a question that I always wonder at - why do some people enter your lives? At the beginning of the acquaintance, you are shy and they simply barge into your life. You hardly know the person in spite of liking them for some reason or other. I am not talking about friendships that are born out of necessity - most of them tend to fade away like a mist on a winter morning but without the beauty that exists as long as it lasts.

This kind of friendship is where you know that you are different from the other person, yet the very nature of the person - truthful, honest, very solid as the woods of the forest, the aura around them that they are inherently dependable, a fall back if you ever need one, a support to cling to in times of  tempestuous storms. And then gradually as time passes by, they grow on you and at last, you lose the shyness, get comfortable, share your innermost thoughts, reach a stage where you even know the reactions of the other on a very basic level. You not only share a good laugh or a lovely chat but being with the other person or hearing their voice makes your day and it brightens up the dull monotony that has turned your life to a mere existence.

And suddenly there comes a day when you go your separate ways with nothing but beautiful memories.

Oh Life is so unfair!

  1. That is a good question. I have a friend who we couldn't stand each other when we first met *at work". Since then we have become the best of friends. I think sometimes that is just the way it happens.

  2. This is life ....and no one has understood it completely ...I think it is better that way!!!

  3. Interesting thoughts, indeed. Friendship is a mistery.

  4. I can totally relate to this post. I used to work with a girl who started at my employer after I did. She kind of glommed on to me for some reason and at first I found her a bit annoying. But she grew on me and turned out to be the sweetest person in an otherwise horrendous work situation. She always made me laugh.

After I left there, I didn't see her much and miss her.

  5. Excellent post! like the imagery you use.
When a friend such as you describe stays for life it's awesome.

  6. In the book, The Little Prince, the young boy tames a fox that he meets. They have the same discussion revealing it was better to know each other and love each other and then when they part they have no regrets. One just lives for the memories of the cherished friendship and starts up new friendships.
    Good thoughts in your post.

  7. Hello.
True friends...the ones who will stick by you no matter what, will give you shelter when you need it, are not afraid to tell you if you are doing wrong, the ones who will be your shoulder to cry on & not judge you when you reveal your secrets to them...these kinds of friends are so hard to come by these days. Yes, life can be unfair, but you have wonderful memories of someone who entered your life & left a lasting impression.
    Nicely penned.
Thanks for sharing & visiting. Your comment is appreciated.

  8. This can be so hard. I have been there. You express it so well.

  9. Ruby, nice words. I know exactly what you mean as I have just recently re-made the acquaintance of someone I hardly knew from my past. We are currently swapping memories and getting enjoyment from it, but this relationship will be only temporary for personal reasons on both our sides - Dave

  10. There's always something to be learned from every relationship.. it's just not always obvious at the time. I'm sorry if you're hurting. Time helps to gain perspective.

  11. But life isn't ALWAYS unfair. Smile away you.

  12. I agree. It's very sad to be parted from good friends. But I guess with time, new friends enter your life. I wish you lots of happy long-lasting friendships!

  13. Hi Digital Flower Pictures, yeah it is so funny and unpredictable when that happens.. :)

Sprinkles, that was more or less what happened with this friend I had in mind. It is very curious how people grow on you :)

Bob, Xurde Radio, Fernando, Zeba, Burhan Thanks a lot!!

Red, Thanks! And I guess, I'm lucky to have a few friends like that :))

Hilary, I was thinking about the past two years when many friends entered and left and was kind of sad. Thanks for your kind comment! :)

Thanks a lot Ash and Sandy!

Burgus, I love that book - it has such pearls of wisdom and also very interesting turn of events.

Andy, that was exactly what I was saying. Thanks a lot!!

Thanks Dave! Its very nice to know that you had an opportunity to remember and share wonderful memories of time long by together!!

  14. Hello Ruby! I agree with Hilary and think that every encounter is a way to learn something about life, about other people, about yourself. So meeting people with attention, even if it is a short moment, and sharing this moment the best as you can makes you feel different and the same together. It is always very interesting to think of every encounter on this way, because you have the sensation to live more, you get true and beautiful memories and you are better ready for new encounters.

  15. Reflections that they invite to think.

  16. Like your quote says, people come into our lives for a reason. I think they are there when we need to learn something that will help us later in life. Sometimes after we have learned what we are supposed to from them, they move on. But they also learn something from us to take with them to help them through in the future. You can think of them as human angels. Now they need to move on to teach someone else something. And you need to learn something from someone new...and give your knowledge to new people.

  17. Hi Ruby,

what a way words are there in your blog and you know ..... you also do the same. I read your blog and x 2 I can do something with. Thanks for the reminder :-)

    Kind regards, Helma

  18. I really needed to read this today. I had to let a friend go today, after knowing them for 2 years. They inspired me and believed in me. But for the 2 time, they were not completely honest me about their situation and I realized how much I need truth, honest and all the other important qualities we all desire and deserve. I love this so much, Ruby! Thank you!

    Coreen XOXO

  19. Anne, thanks for visiting my blog! Yes, every encounter leaves us with wonderful memories :)

Thanks for your lovely comments Javier and Helma!!

Lady Cat - human angels that's such a beautiful thought :))

Coreen, I'm very glad you enjoyed this post :)

  20. Thanks for this post and for dropping by the other day!

  21. 'everything in life happens for a reason'.. life distances us from the people we love the most, but our hearts in big and small ways has the love that keeps us together..

  22. Quite a major topic you've raised there! I'll not repeat what others have said but will suggest the Glad Game.

The game consists of finding something to be glad about in every situation. It originated in an incident one Christmas when the fictional character Pollyanna, who was hoping for a doll in the missionary barrel, found only a pair of crutches inside. Making the game up on the spot, Pollyanna's father taught her to look at the good side of things—in this case, to be glad about the crutches because "we don't need 'em!". Sometimes it's a bit hard but I've yet to find a situation where I've not been able to play the game.

  23. Thanks GB - I'll try the glad game this year :)

Thanks Beyond, the heart treasures the lovely memories, long past.

  24. Hi,
I have been in the same situation timeless times. But guess thats how life goes. Still happy with all those good memories.
